Frequently asked questions
When should I spay or neuter my pet?
Timing depends on species, breed and size. Cats are often spayed or neutered around five to six months, while for some large-breed dogs waiting longer may be better for joint health. Dr. Jalan Wishik will recommend the right age for your pet at a wellness exam.
What are the benefits of spaying or neutering?
Spaying and neutering prevent unplanned litters and remove the risk of uterine infections and testicular cancer. Spaying before the first heat or two greatly reduces mammary tumor risk in dogs and cats. It can also reduce roaming, marking and some hormone-driven behaviors.
How long is recovery after a spay or neuter?
Most pets are back to normal energy within a few days, but the incision needs about 10 to 14 days to heal. During that time, limit running, jumping and bathing, and prevent licking with a cone or recovery suit.
How much does a spay or neuter cost?
Cost depends on species, sex, weight and age, and on whether pre-surgical bloodwork or other services are included. Call 727-847-9111 for an estimate. CareCredit and Cherry financing can help spread the cost over time.
