Frequently asked questions
How often does my pet need a dental cleaning?
Many dogs and cats benefit from a professional cleaning every one to two years, but it depends on breed, age and home care. Small breeds often need cleanings more often. We check your pet's teeth at every wellness exam and recommend a schedule based on what we see.
Why is anesthesia needed for a dental cleaning?
Anesthesia lets us clean safely below the gumline, where periodontal disease starts, and examine every tooth without causing stress or pain. Anesthesia-free cleanings only polish visible surfaces. Before anesthesia we perform a pre-op exam and bloodwork to keep your pet as safe as possible.
What are the signs of dental disease in pets?
Common signs include bad breath, red or bleeding gums, yellow-brown tartar, drooling, dropping food, chewing on one side and pawing at the mouth. Many pets hide dental pain, so problems are often found during an exam. If you notice these signs, schedule a dental check at 727-847-9111.
Do you take dental X-rays?
Yes. Dental X-rays show tooth roots and bone below the gumline, where most dental disease hides. They help us find abscesses, fractured roots and bone loss that can't be seen during a visual exam, so we can treat problems before they cause more pain.
