Frequently asked questions
What does a pet cancer screening involve?
Screening usually combines a thorough physical exam with lab work and, when needed, imaging such as X-rays or ultrasound. Lumps may be sampled with a fine-needle aspirate. We'll explain which tests make sense for your pet's age and breed.
What signs of cancer should pet owners watch for?
Watch for new or growing lumps, sores that won't heal, unexplained weight loss, loss of appetite, persistent lameness, trouble breathing, bleeding, or changes in bathroom habits. These signs don't always mean cancer, but they should be checked promptly. Call 727-847-9111 to schedule an exam.
At what age should my pet be screened?
Risk increases with age, and many vets begin routine screening around middle age, earlier for breeds with higher cancer risk. Dr. Jalan Wishik can recommend a screening schedule at your pet's wellness exam, especially for seniors or pets with a family history of cancer.
